Autocrat of the Breakfast Table

The Autocrat of the Breakfast table is a small collection of essays by the American doctor Oliver Wendell Holmes. They are written as if Holmes is discussing topics at a breakfast table with others. Originally published in 1857, this edition dates from 1901.

This book is smaller than usual, with blue cloth boards and the title and author embossed in gilt on the front and the spine. The boards are quite clean with a few minor scuffs and bumps on the corners and the top of the spine.

Inside the book the name "Lindsay" is written in ink on the first page. There is some very light foxing on the first and last pages but otherwise they are clean and free of pencil marks. The text block is trimmed but a little unevenly, so some pages are wider than others.

The spine is slightly cracked between the cover and the first page, but otherwise the binding is quite secure and all pages are present.

Overall this book is in very good condition for its age and should last many more years with a little TLC.
