The Antiquary

Walter Scott was a prolific Victorian-era romantic writer, whose works include Ivanhoe and Rob Roy.

This book, The Antiquary, is believed to be one of Scott's favourites of his own works. It is the third in his Waverley novels series, which totaled nearly 30 works.

This book has brown cloth boards with dark brown leather on the spine and corners. The corners are quite bumped and rubbed, and the top of the spine is a little faded. The author and title are on the spine in embossed gilt and are still clearly visible.

Inside the book is a handwritten dedication in pencil which reads; "Emily Victoria Wilson, 111 Oban Road, Barking, from Dad, May 8th 1912." There is also a small card with a picture and small religious quote about Jesus.

The pages are all present. The spine is cracked between the title page and an advertisement page, but the binding is secure. There is a small white ribbon as a bookmark between pages 12 and 13. The pages are mostly clean but there is some dirt on the edges particularly in the early part of the book.

This appears to be a book that has been loved in the past, and with a bit of care should continue to be a loved book for your own bookcase in the future.
