Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ

Originally published in 1880, Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ is a novel about a fictional Jewish prince named Judah Ben-Hur. The story of Jesus is told alongside that of Ben-Hur, ending with the prince witnessing the Crucifixion.

The author, Lew Wallace, was an American Civil War general, a governor of New Mexico, and a minister to the Ottoman Empire.

This book has green cloth boards with the author and title on the spine in embossed gilt, along with a picture of some flowers. The bottom of the spine is slightly torn and the top and corners are a little bumped and scuffed. The text block is also gilt.

There is a handwritten dedication on the first page which reads:

"Presented to Stanley Wakefield on the occassion of his leaving Woodford. With all best wishes E.J. Turbyfield, Superintendent, Beechcroft Sunday School, S. Woodford E18. 11th October 1936".

All pages are present and relatively clean, a few of them have fold marks in the corners. The spine is cracked slightly just after the title page, but the binding is secure. There is some very minor foxing on the inside of the front cover and a few grubby finger marks.

Overall this book is in good condition and should last for many more years.
