Written by novelist Oliver Goldsmith, The Vicar of Wakefield is a novel set in English telling the story of the fictional Dr Charles Primrose, whose family are put through a series of disasters after losing all their money. It was first published in 1766 and is one of Goldsmith's most famous works.

This book has green cloth boards with the front decorated in flowers with an image of a vicar holding a book. The pattern continues on the spine. The title of the book is in gilt emboss on both the front and spine.

On the inside front cover is a bookplate prize dedication from Crickwood & Willeseden Green High School and Kindergarten, stating that the book was "awarded to Elsie Samberth for General Proficiency, presented by The Principals, July 25th 1912".

The text block has gilt edges, some of which has rubbed off a little on the bottom corner. The pages are relatively clean, there is the start of some very slight cracking by the binding is secure. All pages are present including the illustrations and heliogravure plates which are listed after the contents page.

Overall this book is in very good condition. Although there is no publishing date the dedication from 1912 shows that this book is over 100 years old, and should last for many more years.
