In 1859 the story “The Ordeal of Richard Feverel” was published, and today The Bibliophile brings to you the 1902 edition. It tells the story of Richard Feverel, a young boy who is brought up very strictly by his father and runs away as soon as he is able to.
Title: The Ordeal of Richard Feverel Author: George Meredith Publisher: Archibald Constable & Co LTD, Westminster. Publication Year: 1902 Pages: 455 Size: 11.6 cm x 16.8 cm.
As you can see from the pictures, this book has red cloth boards with gilt lettering and embossing on the spine and front board, the publisher even had a copy of the author’s signature embossed in gilt on the front.
The spine is faded to more of a brownish red. But the spine is not cracked and all the binding is secure with all pages present. The first and last pages have large foxing marks, but all the pages with text on are clean.
This book would make a nice little addition to the shelf of any vintage fan, or indeed any fan of Victorian literature as this book caused a bit of a scandal in its day!
