The front of the postcard has a black and white photo of a smiling child, with her hat and cardigan colourised in dark pink. There are some blue-coloured flowers at the bottom, and at the top is a poem that reads "My fondest love I'm sending, On your Fifth Birthday dear, And a great big kiss I'd give you too, If only I were near."
On the back is a message in blue ink that reads "To Romey, with lots of love & kisses from auntie Hilda". The postcard is addressed to "Miss Rosemary Cresswell" at Coleshill near Birmingham.
There is a George VI stamp on the top right, and the postmark is date 23rd November 1937.
