Catherine of Aragon was the first wife of King Henry VIII, and was married to him longer than any other wife. He divorced her in favour of Anne Boleyn, she died of natural causes in 1536 and was buried in Peterborough Cathedral.

This image is based on a portrait of Catherine aged 40 by an unknown artist which is on display in the National Gallery.
