Livia was the first Roman empress as the wife of Augustus. She wielded a great deal of power, both as the primary organiser of the Imperial household and also as Augustus' private counsellor. She was also highly ambitious for her two sons from her first marriage, and eventually managed to ensure that one of those sons became Emperor Tiberius.
