The mysteries of Eleusis were ancient Greek religious ceremonies in honour of the goddess Demeter and her daughter Persephone. It was considered to be one of the most important festivals in the Greek religious calendar, the initiation ceremonies were so secret that details were rarely referred to in texts at the time. Although personally I think everyone just got drunk and ran around in the dark scaring each other.
