Thebes was a city-state in ancient Greece that had several famous sons in Greek mythology. The God Dionysus was the son of a Theban princess who was impregnated by Zeus, making him a Theban prince. Oedipus was the King of Thebes, until fate caught up with him, and Herakles married another Theban princess, Megara.
