King Stephen is a bit of a tricky one, did he steal the throne from his cousin Matilda, or was he designated the heir of Matilda's father Henry? Who knows, but it caused one hell of a medieval war! In the end he made one concession - when he died Matilda's son would become King, which is why we had King Henry II.
