Henry I inherited the throne after his brother William Rufus died in a hunting accident. Some say that his rush to claim the throne shows that he planned the "accident" while others point out that hunting accidents were common at the time and that all it really shows is that Henry knew how to grasp opportunities. Unfortunately he died without a legitimate son, and England descended into civil war between Henry's daughter Matilda and her cousin Stephen.
