Canute was a Viking king who invaded England and defeated Aethelred the Unready. Canute then married Aethelred's wife Emma of Normandy, with whom he had several children. He was therefore king of England as well as king of Denmark and Norway. He is also known as "Cnut the Great". Yes, that name is typed wrong by everyone on occasion.
