Jasper Tudor was the son of Owen Tudor and the Dowager Queen of England, Catherine of Valois, the half-brother of King Henry VI. He was also the paternal uncle of King Henry VII. He spent many years in France in exile with Henry, and then took part in the Battle of Bosworth Field where King Richard III was killed.

After his nephew became King he was rewarded with numerous titles and lands and married to Katherine Woodville, the aunt of Henry's wife Elizabeth of York.
