Alfred the Great was the legendary king of Wessex, a large area of south England. He is famous in history for defending Wessex against the Vikings. He also reformed laws and helped rebuild towns which had been abandoned after frequent Viking attacks. He was buried at Winchester but his remains were lost in the 1800's and still remain unidentified to this day.
